Beat Practice

1. Open Reason

2. Create Mixer 14:2

3. If you want to make a regular beat, set your tempo to 80-110. If you want to make a double time beat, set your tempo to 65-75.

4. Create a Redrum and make a 16 OR 32 step "regular" or "double time" beat using the methods we've learned in class. Your beat should have a Clap or Snare Drum, a Bass Drum, a Hi Hat, and a Percussion.

5. Copy your pattern to track.

6. Create a Dr. Rex and load in a Music Loop or Dr. Rex Instrument Loop. Put it "To Track".

7. Create a Combinator, Malstrom, or Subtractor & choose any synth sound you want.

8. Create a Matrix.

9. Using the matrix, try to create a 16 or 32 step melody that you feel sounds right with your Dr. Rex loop.

10. Copy your melody to track. Highlight it on the track and bring it to the spot where it should be.

11. Now create another Dr. Rex Loop Player. Load in a Dr. Rex Percussion loop and put it "To Track".

12. Let me or Vernell know when you have finished so we may check your work.

13. Save Your Beat as (your name) Beat Practice.

Good Work! Don't be like this guy!
